Donovan Plot - Part Four The manor was up ahead, Dahlia could see it through the heavy down pour. The rain had been both a blessing and a curse. It had taken them several days to find the right location and then an additional two days for them to create a plan and find their way in. Each place they had gone, every day that passed them by, Dahlia’s distress intensified until she though her heart would stop from it.
The rain masked their presence, allowing them to swiftly take out the guards who patrolled the property. They had the Magical Law Enforcement on their side, including Aurors. They had been after the Nikoleav family for years but were unable to obtain proof of their wrongdoings. Until now. With the help of the Donovans and the admittance from Fergus for his involvement with the Mob, they were able to obtain enough evidence to take the family down. They weren’t originally willing to allow Dahlia, Liam, or Bartley to come, but eventually they made a binding agreement that their lives were their own.
Dahlia was only there to take her children and nothing more. The others took care of the Nikoleavs and their followers. Dahlia stayed safely behind them.
The moon had already rose and Dahlia feared that they were too late. As they neared the house, they heard a crash on the second floor. Dahlia’s eyes squinted through the rain and darkness and saw a person perched precariously on the ledge of the second floor balcony, but it was what she saw happen next that had her heart freeze in absolute horror.
She saw the werewolf form of her son. Yes, it was her son. She could see the dark fur that she had memorized since the first time she had seen him turn all those years ago. If that was her son, that meant the other form was that of her daughter and she watched, running full speed towards the manor, as her son swiped at her daughter and her daughter plummeted from the ledge with a scream.
Liam was faster with his wand than Dahlia, who was in shock as she ran, and he quickly slowed Gia’s fall as best he could before they heard the sickening sound of her body hitting the ground.
Dahlia screamed.
_______
Before they could reach Gia, the werewolf jumped from the balcony and landed in the mud near where Gia’s unmoving body lay. Several of the men who were there to rescue and take down the Nikoleav family began to fire spells at the werewolf, both in fear and in an attempt to keep him away from the girl. Luckily, the spells worked enough to scare the werewolf away and it let out an angry howl before running away in the opposite direction of the men.
Dahlia reached Gia a couple of steps after Liam and Bartley. Bartley was already assessing the situation. “She broke her leg and arm from the fall, plus her shoulder is dislocated.” He explained quickly. Bartley was in the Emergency Care unit at the local hospital back home. He was used to this sort of injury. “Her ribs are cracked. These are minor injuries.” He quickly waved his wand over Gia and healed the broken bones. “She has some internal bleeding and what looked to be wounds not caused by the fall. This will take me longer to deal with, but we have to get her out of the rain and somewhere safe.” He advised.
“Was she bitten?” Dahlia asked, the desperation evident in her voice. She knew she shouldn’t worry about that but life was already so difficult for them.
Bartley did a quick once over of Gia but found no evidence of her having been bitten. Shaking his head he said “No, it looks like just some deep scratches that’ll take some time to heal and scar.”
“Alright, let’s get her out of here.Do you have somewhere safe where we can take her?” Liam Dahlia but movement between them caused him to look down to see Gia regaining consciousness.
_______
Muffled voices edged into her mind as she struggled to regain consciousness. The voices sounded far away and as though they were deep in the water. The rain was still pelting her face and it was cold enough to clear a bit of her fog away. Opening her eyes, Gia found herself staring at the now empty balcony where she had last seen the werewolf form of her brother. Fear and panic jolted her awake and she tried to move to get away, but the sudden pain that she felt when she tried caused her to cry out and fall back down.
“No no, Baby, do not move.” A voice spoke, still muffled but familiar in her native tongue. Gia’s blue eyes rolled around, her mind once again feeling the edge of darkness creeping in. Gia tried to focus on the voice but her mind was buzzing and the panic was still fueling her. Suddenly, a face popped into her dimming view and she saw her mother. She was soaked from the rain, but Gia could still see the panic on her face and the tears in her eyes. “We slowed your fall but it wasn’t enough to stop you from injury.” Her mother was saying.
A man appeared in her view, he looked familiar but Gia couldn’t place him. “You have a broken leg, a couple of broken ribs, and your shoulder is dislocated.” He spoke, his voice heavy with an Irish accent. “There’s chance that you bonked your head pretty good, but we’ll have our family Healer check you over once we get you home.”
Home?
Gia’s eyes filtered up to the balcony where her brother used to be. “Jax?” She mumbled, the pain becoming too unbearable for her and she knew the darkness would come once more.
“We’ll bring him home too.” The man said. Darkness came before she could hear the end of his sentence.
