Dropping a Bomb (Arnold)
Fae sat nervously on the sofa, watching her hands in her lap while Arnold made himself comfortable. Because of his schedule with the league, Fae didn’t see him as often as she liked so his return home was always a little awkward the first day or so. But today was more than just the awkwardness of his return to the normally quiet house. Today she needed to share news with him. Just thinking about it made her blush. She really had no reason to be nervous about anything considering they had been married for quite some time now, but this was new and his reaction would determine whether or not she ought to be happy about it.
For a few weeks now, Fae had felt terrible. There had been days where she had been so exhausted that it would be hours before she would pull herself out of bed and there was absolutely no reason for it. It wasn’t like she was running around all day or so busy that she collapsed at night. Nothing had changed from her usual routine to cause her such a terrible lethargic lifestyle. There were also days when she was ill. She couldn’t keep food down and some smells were just more than she could handle.
Being as ill as she was, when Arnold had to go away for work, Fae spent the few days with her sister up in Vermont. She felt too vulnerable to be home alone and her only other option was to stay with Arnold’s parents. She enjoyed his family, but she wasn’t sure she was ready to really be alone with them for an extended period of time. Shelby had taken it upon herself to have her Healer come over to give Fae a look over. If Fae was carrying a bug, Shelby didn’t really want her anywhere near Riley or Willow.
What was discovered, however, was not the flu, but something that had Fae feeling overwhelmed and near tears. Shelby said that she would get used to such emotional outbursts, but Fae wasn’t so sure about it. And then the idea of having to tell people... Fae ended up locking herself in the guestroom until she was composed enough to return home.
And now Arnold was here. She had waited until after dinner and Arnold and her were seated in their living room before she dropped this information on him. It felt fitting anyway considering this was how the start of began. Taking a deep breath, Fae put her needlepoint (she had grabbed it out of habit when she sat down) down on the coffee table and turned to look at Arnold. “I have something important to tell you.” She announced to him. “Do you, er, do you remember that night after the family Christmas party when we came home and we…. continued...” Fae gave an embarrassed laugh, her face turning pink at the memory of it. “Anyway, Shelby took me to her Healer while you were away because I was feeling rather rotten and, er,”
This was it. This was the moment where she had to tell him. “I’m pregnant.” She said quickly, looking back down at her hands. “She estimates I’m about ten weeks along now.” Fae added, still looking at her lap.
