The Truth Comes Out As Danae curled up on the bed that she had claimed for her stay, she couldn’t help thinking how lucky Josh and Matt were. The differences already shown in less than a day between their family and hers was remarkable. When she had first arrived, she hadn’t paid much attention to her surroundings since she had been more concerned with other far more important matters, but after everything had been straightened out, they had gotten to take a tour of the house. It probably took longer than necessary, because she wanted to take in every detail.
The house was decorated in warm tones that just seemed to invite a person in. It was such a contrast to the immaculate perfection of her home that while beautiful was also inhibiting. If she ever had the opportunity to decorate her own home, she wanted to do something this. Even the artwork was stunning. It was bold and brilliant rather than subdued and uninteresting. The only ones that were of any consequence in their home were the ones that her mother’s friend had first taken an interest in, then her mother always made sure to purchase them before her friend could.
Of course, her mother had never been a prime example of how one should be a friend. She feared that she would end up treating her friends like the way her mother treated hers, but then her mother’s friends were just like her. Danae glanced over to Eavan, her best friend. She still had to tell her about what had happened earlier. Shifting on the bed, she sat up, cross-legged, so they could talk. “Hey, Eav, remember how I said I had something to tell you?” She waited for Eavan to acknowledge this. She braided a bit of her hair. She was stalling.
It took another minute for her to actually begin talking, as she wasn’t quite sure how to go about telling the news. She bit her lip quickly, before plunging in, “Josh and I were discussing our future.” Then, knowing that didn’t quite make sense, she explained further, “Before you came to visit me, I found out that I was no longer marrying Emeric, but Josh instead.” She took a breath of relief. Now, that it was out there, the rest came easier, “My parents requested the arrangement and Josh agreed to it.”
She had originally thought it had been his parents and had been surprised to learn that he had actually agreed to it. “I tried to talk him out of it. I don’t think he knows what he’s really dealing with, but he thinks that if we go through with this, I’ll be able to do whatever I want instead of what my parents want.” She shrugged slightly like it wasn’t that important when it really was, because it opened up a world to her. “And it’s just until one of us meets someone.” She worried that the last part wouldn’t happen for her and Josh would feel obligated to stay with her.
