Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
I've just joined with this guy here. His name is Remington Stark, and he's a 36-year-old high school computer science teacher, Jersey native, and unashamed Red Sox fan. Teaching is not his passion, however. His passion was being in the military which he had done since he was eighteen years old. His career was cut short, however, by an injury he received while deployed in Afghanistan two years ago. He was discharged and sent home to recover, and has just gotten the teaching job this year thanks to his twin, [info]presto. He's left with a few scars from the incident, some of which can't be seen but continue to affect his day-to-day life. He has a problem with his memory now and then, sometimes has trouble stringing words together, and on very bad days, has a bit of an erratic temper/personality thanks to a brain injury.

Personality-wise, he's a little rough around the edges. He has a very clear opinion on things and isn't afraid to voice it, whether or not someone wants to hear it. He's got a bit of a foul mouth, something that just sort of comes with the Army lifestyle. He's friendly enough when he's in a good mood, but he's definitely not out to be everyone's best friend. If you're lucky enough to be a friend, he'd go to the ends of the earth for you and then some. He does have a childish streak that he's never quite outgrown, and for this reason he gets along with kids really well, sometimes better than he does with adults.

That's Remy in a nutshell! I'd love to figure out some connections/lines.

Excellent! I saw the little blurb about her doing a story on him when he came home. Would she have interviewed him? Cause she'd have had to edit it quite a bit lol

i threw that up as filler and meant to ask you about it so i'm glad you looked at it! but she would have asked to do one. whether or not he gave an interview is completely up to you. i imagine it wouldn't be just about him but him coming home would have been her inspiration for the story. she wouldn't have minded having to edit it at all haha. i can see her making an edited copy of it to air and then an unedited version of it just for him. like a bloopers real kind of thing where she's doing her best to keep from laughing and they're just snarking back and forth instead of sticking to the questions she has.

I'm nosy like that, actually. :-X

I think, at first, he'd have been stalwartly against doing an interview. He just wanted to get over his injuries, get back to work, and try to convince the Army to take him back. But as time went on and he settled down more, he'd have been more apt to agree, so long as she was the one asking him to do it. If she'd asked Preston to ask for her, then the answer would have always been no. He'd be glad to talk about the actual event, but any pushing on her part for more personal feelings on it would make him shut down or divert, not that he'd do it on purpose.

haha it's all good! she may have asked preston his opinion on the idea but she'd have been the one to come to remy about it in the end. and she'd have given him time to adjust. the entire piece would have been half a year in the making in the least. she's also pretty good at reading people and while she may have had those personal questions on her paper if she was getting the feeling he wouldn't respond well to them she'd avoid them as best she could.

Yeah, he's not fond of talking about 'personal feelings' and the whole shrink thing of 'how do you feel about it?' when it comes to the event that not only ended his career and his way of life, but also claimed the life of one of his friends within the unit. When he's asked those kinds of things, he really does just shut down. And it'd only be because of their friendship (or her friendship with Preston at that point if they didn't know each other that well; I honestly forget how long they've known each other :/ ) that he didn't go off on her like he'd do with anyone else.

at the time remy came back preston and nat had been friends for about three years. when she asked preston his thoughts no the package idea he may have given her advice on not to ask those kinds of questions no matter how much she wanted to. her questions would have been more or less to just shine a light on what it's like over there and how it all connects to home.

I've a young Marine here whose battalion served in both Iraq (2008) in the Anbar Province and Afghanistan in 2010. His EAS was in June of 2011.

I don't have specifics on when and where Remy went when he was deployed, aside from Kuwait City when the conflict first began. Because he's an officer, he was in the Middle East quite a bit over the coarse of eight years until he was injured. I've never been told how often the branches work together or might be in the same base, but if they were, it wouldn't be out of line to say that they'd met!
