Hey there! Just thought I'd post here and see what I can get while I pick away at this bio..I intend to bring in Jack here. He's 43, married to [info]walraven (they're coming in as the separate bedrooms)..they're extremely on/off (currently off), mainly due to her mental instability (something like borderline personality disorder?). He grew up in Boston but moved to NYC when he was accepted by Columbia University, where he got his MA in English. He's an editor working for HarperCollins, was recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis which he's not taking very well, but he's keeping it mostly to himself while battling the other issues that trouble him. He's not as dark/depressing as he sounds, he does have a fun side and a sense of humor when you get to know him. Anyway, I'm open to any connections I can get. What I have so far of his bio is here, let's brainstorm!

MAJOR auto correct fail. I'll fix that.

Ellis is a writer. Her long bio is unlocked, but the short of it is she wrote a book after a breakup that went on to be a best seller and all that and launched her career as a relationship columnist for the Times. I've been sort of NPCing her editor who is actually trying to get her to work on a second book. She also is a Columbia grad, although she majored in Journalism and Sociology.

Ooh, that's a great connection! Maybe he's her editor, and if so, he'd definitely push her; he's one who tends to strive for perfection and push others to do so as well, especially if he can spot a talent in them. Do you have an idea of what her book is like? Can you compare it to something perhaps?

I would love that. She's worried she'll let him down because she doesn't know if she CAN write a second book, it was born out of SUCH a difficult time. She was heartbroken, homeless, etc etc. It's fiction, but something like a mix of Eat, Pray, Love/He's Just Not that Into You with some actual depth as the protagonist lets go and moves on. I haven't actually fleshed more of that out yet, since she's been concentrating on her work with the Times.

Perfect, I like this plan a lot. He's secretly going to make it a mission to get her inspired somehow, and he holds it in high regard that she works for the Times (for the record).

I've actually just said that he's suggested a vacation and she's going to Puerto Rico next weekend. So she is. There are a few face in game she mentions in effigy in the book as well, that Jack would be familiar with, like her 'evil ex' and the guy that was kind and helped her out.

Excellent, good to know. You'll have to point these faces out if/when I'm accepted! It's sort of interesting how much he'll know about her just through her book..makes for a level of intimacy/neat dynamic that you might not find anywhere else. Looking forward to it!

can i just tell you how excited it makes me that you're playing tim? because of this fact i would love to work out a line. nat's a 35yo reporter/noon anchor for wnbc so she meets a lot of people through her job. we could always go that route or figure something else out?

I'm super excited myself, not gonna lie! I can say Jack is a bit of a news junkie so at the least he'd know of her for starters..they can meet through her job or indeed, we can come up with something else..either way I would love something!!

brilliant! what's he like? does he frequent any places? we could do an initial meeting through work and then another run in where she was like "jack! you might not remember me blahblahblah". she has a knack for remembering everyone she interviews or talks to about a story or has any relation to work in general.

He's..awesome, obviously. Haha, I don't know he's kind of reserved but with a great sense of humor and a sweet side that he loves to categorically deny. He's a book nerd and working as an editor he has a LOT of reading to do, so he probably spends a lot of time at cafe's and, it pains me to say it..but at the Starbucks/Barnes & Nobles locations around, as well as book stores to do his personal shopping. I'm not sure why she'd have any reason to interview him, but I could totally go for that..I like the meeting through work and then running into each other later idea. He would definitely not remember her, just because I like to write out potentially awkward things.

ahahah aside from the obvious. nat pretty much mainlines coffee so running into one another at a cafe is totally plausible. she doesn't discriminate against starbucks (it's the easiest coffee to get early in the morning) so we could go with a run-in there? as for needing to interview him... she could have done a story recently about the success of the twilight series and gotten a professionals opinion. i could see her basically asking any editor she could find in the phone book what they thought of the series and if they didn't read it she'd probably still ask them more questions about it (like why not and why they think it's so popular).

and potentially awkward situations are the best. i'm a bit of a masochist when it comes to putting my kids through the awkward haha

I read that as something like 'Nat manliness coffee' and there was a moment of confusion...I cannot wait until my new glasses are ready, haha. CLEARLY I need them. Anyway, starbucks is perfect, and it'd be hilarious for Jack to try to respond to Twilight in a respectful manner. The whole idea sounds great, I'm excited!

I'm totally the same way, I love putting my characters through hell.

If you think Jack can handle another writer to edit, I offer up Devon. Similar to ~ellson, he’s a former sex/lifestyle/relationship columnist and writer. He started out in creative writing, smaller essays and short stories then switched over into the relationship world once he moved to New York many years ago. He’s worked for GQ, LAC out in Los Angeles, and launched two books about sex, relationships and his life. He’s a bit of a workaholic and maybe your guy convinced him to slow it down a bit, pick a couple of projects and completely commit versus spreading himself too thin. Devon recently decided to head back to school (seemingly out the blue) to complete his PhD, I could see either his editor or publicist (which I have as an NPC) talking him into going back to validate his use of “Dr. D” on programs.

Lastly, Devon is from Boston as well and although he’s 34, I could completely see their families either knowing one another or them bumping into one another first when they were younger. Would it be too farfetched to say Jack possibly babysat Devon and his siblings for a little bit? I think that would be funny.

All of that sounds pretty awesome, and it would not be farfetched at all to say Jack babysat once upon a time...in fact, it'd be hilarious and I insist upon it.

Also, check your PMs!

I'm sure Devon's parents still think the world of Jack. His mom probably sends him care packages because she's like Betty White meets Martha Stewart.

;) You can't get rid of me.

Actually I was going to contact you after reading about you in ~ellsson's bio! I don't think a fourth writer will hurt..especially since I don't think he'd be doing work for all four of them at any one given time..so yes, I'm definitely interested if you want a line!

I always want a line! I have it written that Lee has been with the same team from the start of his career when an agent decided to take a chance on him despite being a nobody. I can change that, or Lee could be one of the names that helped give Jack a boost up?

Well, I haven't quite worked out the timeline yet (waiting on his wife's player to get back to me) but I imagine he's worked for this company for quite a few years (maybe 10, give or take a few? he's 43) ..I'm not sure how long ago Lee's career started but honestly, I'm okay with either option so long as it fits into a timeline that makes sense! Also, sorry it took so long for me to get back to you, I've been a bit busy this week.
