Hi everyone! This here is Maxwell Gallagher but you can call him Max. He is 26 and known around these parts as The Recovering Alcoholic. He hasn't been accepted yet (*fingers crossed*) but I would like to at least come in with maybe a little something. He is portrayed by Penn Badgley.
Gist of background: Max is a shy person and would turn to alcohol growing up to come out of his shell. At first most people would disregard it, thinking it was normal teenage behavior to drink at parties but it became problematic when he started to use it to define who he was.
Gist of love: He met Aimee during their senior year in high school. They moved in together after graduation (neither went to college). He made a promise to his eventually-to-be wife that he would try to stay sober and of course that didn't work out. She had his baby and that night was the last time he saw her as he missed the birth because he needed a drink (or ten) to calm his nerves. She died in a car accident a few years later that was caused by a drunk driver and as unfortunate as the circumstances are, that was the point he decided to get sober.
His other relationships besides Aimee were not as good. He would prey on women with low self-esteem because they could be manipulated by him. He would knock them down to his level of self-worth (which was -1 at that point) just so he could feel better. Misery loves company.
So, while not the greatest guy, he really is trying now for his son (who he doesn't have custody of yet but he's working on it). He's absolutely terrified of women because he knows what he's capable of so I'd imagine dating him would be kind of slow-moving. He definitely needs someone patient.
As for lines, I'm thinking maybe some people he might have went to high school with who see him as nothing but a drunk moron. The only real friendship he has out of his immediate family is his sober coach who he relies on quite a bit. If you're up for it, I'd love to maybe have a past girlfriend or two and I can see him making the rounds and apologizing to those he has screwed with emotionally. I'm up for anything, really. If you have a line or two that needs to be filled, I'm sure we could work something out.
