the photographer.
Well hello, holiday survivors! After a little bit of brainstorming with [info]ahawtrey, I've finally decided to hold Adam Gregory's face as the photographer. But he's not just any ol' photographer, this guy's the wedding photographer all the ladies dream of. Especially after his business was mentioned in Glamour magazine which allowed him to move up a tier in the photog industry. His amazing and contemporary view on wedding photography has become all the rage and it helps that he doesn't charge an arm and a leg to be hired.

Andrew Burchell has become a name commonly used in the blogosphere and his portfolio is something often mentioned by wedding planners and event coordinators. I'd love to come into the community with a decent number of couples whose wedding he's shot. He's been in business for just over six years now but his business model hasn't changed since he started. He doesn't just sell his services, that's not why he's such a hot commodity, he sells the experience of working with him. He makes his couples feel loved and spoiled and is passionate about hearing their stories, sending them hand written reminders for shoot dates (he always tosses a free engagement session in with each wedding so the couples can get familiar with him and being behind a lens) and extending offers for lunches and dinners in order to build a friendly rapport with them. Being gay also happens to be a big selling point of his as most men tend not to feel threatened by him when their future-wives gravitate to his charm.

He's still close with a few of the couples he's shot over the years and many of them have used him for maternity sessions, family portraits, and even boudoir photos as surprises for their husbands or husbands-to-be. I'd also love a line with someone who could be his go-to second shooter for weddings. Maybe someone who picked up photography as a hobby, doesn't want to do it full-time, but loves working the weekend weddings with Andrew who has taken them under his wing to teach them everything he knows. They would be the ones who constantly reminded Andrew not to work so hard and maybe they've developed into best friends of sorts. An "aspiring director" line would also be awesome as Andrew is looking to expand his business into something in the vain of Iris & Light.

So happily (and even the not so happy) wedded couples, what'cha got for him?

He sounds like a lot of fun! Serenity is not engaged or married, but I'd love to work out something regardless. She's a fashion designer who is trying to dip her toes into all tips of fashion - including bridal so maybe we can work out something between them? Though I'm not sure what.

I'm sure he would have encountered her in his workings, definitely! He's been at this for six years so he's got an extensive network in the wedding industry. He had humble beginnings for a year or two before he really got big (and I'm thinking he started off doing image retouching before transitioning into wedding photography), so maybe he shot a debut of one of her collections while he was still a fresh face and she was just starting off in the fashion world? Since he's a big advocate of the whole back-scratching philosophy, he's probably referred her to brides looking for custom gowns or wedding planners who have clients that want something to call their own.

She's not all that new to the fashion world, she has gotten by by a lot of word of mouth and pimping herself out with her stylist position and is finally having her first runway show in the February fashion week! but she would have enlisted his expertise in showing off her work for her own protfolio to reel in the clients. She's all about you help me and I'll help you, so maybe they have a system where he can recommend her for the dresses and she'll "put in a good word" for brides to be that she's working with for his photography? It could be a fun business friendship!

Ooh, chic! He might have even first gotten wind of her then when he was working for the magazine company he left when just starting out. I'm sure he would have heard about her styling an A-lister he had to retouch. She could have been that big name that ultimately landed him the power couple that kicked off his career. Yes, I absolutely love an awesome business relationship! He's much better with those than he is with romantic ones so she'd be privy to all kinds of recommendations as well as the occasional surprise cupcake from Magnolia Bakery.

That's perfect! And she's much better with business than romantic at the moment so they could have something really solid. And I'd he brings her food, he will be her favorite person ever and get baked goods from her own kitchen as well as many drinks on her.

She will make it her mission in life to make him as fat as possible. Would you like for me to set up an IC custom for them just to see how they mesh?

Oh no! Haha, he will be the bum that drags her ass out to yoga or on morning runs because he refuses to let his sedentary lifestyle get the best of him. But yes! A custom would be ace!

There are a couple other established photographers in the com. Ellis is a columnist from the Times who's also been featured in Vanity Fair/Cosmo/etc. I'm not sure it's his 'thing' but maybe he did some photography for her pieces?

Aren't there always? Andrew believes you can throw a rock anywhere in New York City and hit at least three photographers. While he doesn't usually do editorial photography I'm sure he might have lended his talents in repurposing the photos or retouching some of them, especially if it was earlier in his career where he was doing just about anything that would pay and expand his portfolio.

I thought he might work specifically because she's a relationship columnist, so marriage/relationships sort of work hand in hand. Maybe they did some random feature in June or something. Just an idea!

padma is a bit of a lost soul atm. she was married for six years before her ex-husband came out to her that he was gay and had been the entire time they were married, so right now she's in a sort of mid-life crisis even though she's only 32. she was a computer science teacher at a high school, but at the end of the school year she quit to basically go on an eat. pray. love.-esque adventure through jobs (instead of food) to find something she can be in love with. i'd love if she managed to somehow get to work with him (even though she has no photography experience). maybe photography is one of the things she decides to try doing? currently she's working at a book store.

alright i'm done rambling but all-in-all, padma is open for plotting!

If she's looking to kind of revamp her life and decides to pick up a camera, Andrew could definitely take her on. Maybe she bought a 5D while he was returning camera equipment? If she had any questions, he would have offered his card to help her out in his spare time and when it turns out she's got a pretty keen eye, maybe he brings her on for a couple of second shooting jobs and pimps her out to his other photog friends when they need second shooters.

that sounds wonderful! so i take it your boy is a canon man? i do some photography on the side and am more partial to nikon myself haha. but padma is sorta using her job at the book store to find other interests, so i could definitely see her picking up "photography for dummies" or something before going out to buy a camera.

I have a pair of friends who are actually professional wedding photogs themselves and Nikon is the camera of choice between one and Canon for the other. But! Since he wants to expand into also doing videography, he's picking up the Canon and slowly transitioning from the Nikon he started with. But either way, if she's interested in learning, Andrew loves his work enough to help her out. He's a big advocate of the pay-it-forward thing too.

very nice! canon's a nice brand as well, i was just given a nikon as a birthday present and went from there lol. but i could see her definitely looking into photography here soon! once we're both in we can discuss a scene for them

Nice! Yeah, I think it's whatever one you start off with that you become partial to. But yeah, once they're in we could absolutely start them off with a scene.

so i'm not entirely sure what we can work out but i would love something. nat is a 35 year old news reporter/noon anchor for wnbc. she's not married nor engaged but i figure they'd both be prominent enough figures to have crossed paths at least once or twice? idk i'm open to brainstorming!

Ooh, an anchor? I'm sure he's done professional headshots before so maybe he did hers for the wnbc.com site where her information would be listed? Or maybe they even met through mutual acquaintances?

He and Adam dated a good six years ago but are just starting to reconnect. Would she have been an adamant supporter of "that guy who Adam lived with that one summer"? I think she would have been 14 when they were dating and if he'd met any of the family, I'm sure he would have made an impression. Andrew's good with winning people over like that. Or if any of her friends recently decided to tie the knot, he shoots predominately young couple weddings so maybe they don't even need to know each other through Adam and could have met then instead. He dances at every single one of the weddings he shoots so if she lacked a partner, he'd have pulled her onto the dance floor. Thoughts?
