Hello, wedded. I've heard such great things about this community so I'm going to give this guy a shot. I will keep this short for now. This is Geoffrey, a political analyst/pr specialist. He's worked for Hillary Clinton, Michael Bloomberg, and now NY's governor elect, Sebastian Vandermay. He's spent several years on and off in New York, one of which he dated [info]norajane seriously. I've got a good portion of his bio done, but I'd love family, friends or political connections. Former flings prior to dating Nora, and all that jazz.

i could offer pera as a fling. she's not the relationship sort, though she's slowing starting to change that. she's friends with the governor, so maybe they met through him at some party? she also manages a night club that he could have gone to, she's bartended at several five star restaurants in the past as well; they could've met anywhere, really.

A fling would be fabulous. I'm not sure he'd do the nightclub scene, but definitely one of the restaurants. Maybe he was in a very boring meeting and excused himself to the bar where he met her (and went home with her)?

that might work as long as the timing will fit, how long exactly has he been in the city on and off?

Since the end of '05. He basically split time with Clinton during those Senate years and he worked her campaign in 2007/08 for the democratic nom. He dated Nora through 2009 and for part of 2010.

that would definitely work out, then. she's been working at the club for the past five years, so maybe it was at the end of '05 or beginning of '06 when they met at the restaurant she was working at.

That would be good. He was more brash then. He's more confident now, just more tactful.

lol well, pera's as blunt as they come, so either version of him would work just fine with her. ;) any idea how you'd like their dynamic to be now?

I'm sure that's something he likes about her. I don't know - maybe we can do a quick scene once I get his bio sorted to figure it out? It might be nice if he stayed in touch with her. Maybe she's been a grounding factor for him or something? I think he's moved around so much with this business that he doesn't have real roots aside from South Boston where his family is.

definitely, i'd be up for a scene to figure it out. i think knowing that he wasn't going to be in town all the time would have made her okay with giving him her number and saying he could come around whenever he was back in the city - it's not something she normally does by any means, but she figures you can't get close with someone if they're rarely around. so i'm game for her being some type of grounding figure for him. and gosh, i just love that pb <3

We're just going to have a mutual adoration society pb wise because yours is one foxy lady. It could be a really interesting relationship to explore on these terms and for Geof it would have good - no pressure and no strings but hopefully a good rapport.

Well, this is Shelby lee, the governor elect's wife and I guess, future first lady so they would probably know one another, I would hope.

He would most certainly know her. Would you be interested in a little tension? I've been filled in a little on her and Sebastian and it might be interesting if he opposed their marriage, especially before the election. Maybe he put polls into the field that showed a negative response to an "arranged" marriage?

sure, i'd be open to some tension as long as you know she is a spitfire and not just some random spoiled rich debutante brat. she was smart enough to graduate princeton early, doesn't flaunt her money at all (she doesn't even carry a designer handbag) and will absolutely stand up for her beliefs.

Believe me, he wouldn't give her the time of day if she was a wilting flower. With work, he's relentless and pretty unmerciful so he'd be challenged by that.

I've already had her her say to people in the past few weeks that she gets in trouble with his press staff before for things she's said so she half expects it and I don't think it's out there for that to continue to happen. She's definitely not your average spoiled heiress. Shelby Lee is probably the complete opposite of that.

That's really interesting and it offers a point of contention for Geof and Sebastian. I think he would see Shelby as a disadvantage for him, especially if he ever has any higher aspirations.

Yeah, she's an environmental activist which is ironic considering her family history so she doesn't just sit down and take what's told of her. She gets out there and voices her opinion. I think she'll have to have a good talking to by Geof on her 'place' before they move into the governor's mansion this winter.

Geof's just a realist and because he's so involved with the polling, he knows what sways people. Inside he's a funny, sweet sort of guy, but at work forget it. It could be a lot of fun!

We could do a fling. He was on and off between NY and DC from 2005-2008. He dated seriously 2009-2010 so that time wouldn't be good.

Any ideas on what kind of fling you'd like it to have been? He had a unique relationship with Pera in his time in and out of the city as well. He's a cutthroat at work, but he's really sort of laid back and funny out of work.

She'd have just been out of her first and only major real relationship, so it wouldn't have been serious. She probably would have appreciated his levity. Whatever works with you. I can fuss with the date a little, if something else works better for you.

Not serious is fine with me. He's only had two serious girlfriends and Nora was one of them. I think with the way he moves around keeps him from diving in too deep. If it was something understood between them, they can still be friends? Or do you prefer something with a bit more tension?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

I had an idea about that. Since they would have been seeing each other while she was writing the book, maybe there is a character in it that is based on Geoffrey. It's pure fiction, but I'm sure it's all based on people she knows, her own experiences, etc etc. She never expected to publish it or for it to be a best seller, so it wasn't 'planned'. Maybe he's either flattered by it or upset for some reason, that would be up to you!

I suppose it would depend on how she portrayed him in the book. I think, though, that while he's at the top of his field, he's still low profile. He does the behind the scenes work, so it's not like anyone would know she modeled the character after him (except for him). I think Nora might figure it out if she knew your girl and my girl had a thing, too - but again, it all depends how she portrayed him and how important you want that to be.

Considering it sounds as if he's a nice guy, I can't imagine it would have been anythi g but positive. At that point her ex would have been the bad guy I'n the story, not him.
