Who: JT Cole, Maxxie Delacourt, and Tom Sturbridge
When: Saturday night, May 22, 2096
Where: Club Tar (it only uses light beyond the normal spectrum, tonight is ultraviolet night)
What: Celebrating moving in
Status: Closed, incomplete

JT shuffled forward when the crowd moved a bit, followed by Maxxie and Tom. "I usually only have to wait in line for half and hour before I get in, so it won't be much longer. We can get your glasses at the door. I hope you guys like it," he says, directing the last comment mostly at Maxxie.

Maxxie took in slow, deep breaths as she bounced on her toes, waving her stance from foot to foot and trying not to think of the press of people that were far too close around her. It reminded her vividly of frat parties only the people were older, which didn't stop them from reminding her of frat boys. And soon enough, most of them would be drunk, and she'd be avoiding alcohol like the plague.

She offered a bright wide performance smile that was tight around her eyes. "It's going to be great. I like to dance." And she did, loved it really, her hands already tapping fingers against her legs to the music she could just hear even from the outside. It wasn't what they were doing here that was the problem, it was the number of people.

"If nothing else," Tom said, "you can both amuse yourself laughing at my attempts to dance. That is, if you're not disavowing even knowing me. Although the two really aren't mutually exclusive." He shifted his weight back and forth, his hands tucked in his pockets for warmth. He hadn't expected to be waiting in a line, but apparently this was normal.

"You'll be fine, don't worry, I'm surei can help you move," JT replied, eyeing the other man. "Unless you are one of those flailers, with your arms and legs going everywhere, then you as on your own."

Tom grinned. "I can't help it. They've got minds of their own!" He did an awkward little jig in place, then stopped. "I try not to put my limbs anywhere where they might cause other people injury. Although I have to be honest. The last time I actually attempted to dance was at prom."

JT dodge out of the way of one wing like arm, "Next time I'm totally getting you a costume with ribbons and we'll tie those arms down."

"Um. Right." Tom glanced at Maxxie. "You'll have to get through my bodyguard first." He tried to keep a straight face, but wasn't terribly successful.

Maxxie rolled her eyes. "I think he might need more protection from you, hon, but maybe we should let him figure that out for himself once your arms start flying. Because I can blink to get out of his way if I need to." She grinned at him, blipping instinctively into a slightly different spot when the person behind her bumped her. "I'm reserving my urge to kill for the people around me, Tom. I think you're safe."

"I guess I'll just have to protect myself from being tied up. I may not have a black belt, but I do know how to block." He stuck his tongue out at JT, then grinned.

He was relieved when the line actually started moving at more of a shuffle. When they got to the door, he paid for both himself and Maxxie to get in, figuring it was only fair since he'd been the one to drag her along.

"Here goes my eardrums," he joked, stepping inside.

JT snagged two pairs of UV glasses, he was even able to pick out some that weren't hideous or geeky. "Here, you will want these," he said handing them out. Slipping his own on caused the almost pitch black club to burst into color, UV paint on the decore and patrons almost hurting his eyes with the intensity.

Maxxie slipped the glasses on, wincing at the sudden intensity of images. The music was good, the crush was bad, and she was having trouble reconciling it. She slipped a breath in and huffed it out, slowly smiling. "I'm good. Anybody else ready to get dancing?"

"Hey, you gotta go with your strengths," Tom joked. He allowed himself to be pushed, and tried very hard once there not to make a fool of himself in his attempts to coordinate his limbs in some sort of rhythmic fashion.

Once she was settled on the dance floor, Maxxie no longer needed the boys to be happy, but was more than willing to dance with them when they came near. She wasn't worried about Tom's long arms, easily blinking out of the way if something came a bit too close, and reappearing in what only looked like a flash of the club strobe lights.

She'd forgotten how much fun it could be to go out and just enjoy it. No one here knew who she was, no one cared, and she could just let go for a while. And if anyone got too close to being fresh? They'd learn the hard way that she wasn't going to tolerate it.

Joining Maxxie in getting lost in the music, JT let the beat carry him away. Hr danced equally with both of his new roomates, either dodging Tom or more often, grabing an incoming hand and spinning in closer. Maxxie's blinking was a wonder to watch, after he noticed it. No one would be able to see unless they were as close. He began to mentally guess when she'd blink next.

Tom enjoyed watching the other two have fun more than anything. He let JT use him as someone to dance off of, although he wasn't quite sure it qualified as dancing together when JT was moving to the beat and his attempts were syncopated at best.

He was about to suggest that maybe they take a break, go get some water or soda or something, when the music screeched to a halt and the lights were abruptly turned off, plunging the entire club first into darkness, and then a split second later, disconcerting brightness as the house lights came up.

"What the...?" Tom looked around, noticing that everyone else was having pretty much the same reaction.

Maxxie blinked, overwhelmed by the brightness and gravitating towards Tom with an abrupt blink as soon as the lights came up. "This normal?" she asked JT. "Because this doesn't seem like it should be normal."

Almost as soon as JT said it, an announcement came over the loudspeaker. "Ladies and gentlemen, we apologize. Just a couple of technical difficulties. We'll be be back in business in just a minute."

True to their word, the lights went off and the UV light show returned, and the music was turned back on full blast after a minute.

Tom, who had been looking around, trying to figure out where everything was controlled from, pointed. "Look." A couple of dark figures in suits were heading towards the exit, escorted by security, but not as if they were being made to leave, but like security was there to protect them from the club patrons.

Maxxie blinked out of where she stood, reappearing off to the side, nearer to the shadows than anywhere else close to the exit.

"...thank you for your compliance..."

She barely caught a few words from one of the suits before they were at the door and out of earshot from her position. She could blink after them, but she didn't want to be seen by them. Instead, she blinked across the floor again, taking herself closer to the bar, where she figured she might overhear some gossip from the staff.

"Probably better to stay where we are and wait for her to come back," Tom said with a sigh. "She can move a lot faster than we can, and for all we know, she blinked out of the building." His forehead furrowed, obviously worried.

The one good thing about the crush and noise was that no one paid a bit of attention to one small woman suddenly being next to them. As long as she smiled and looked like she was dancing, or threading through the crowd to the bar, they ignored her.

They needed earpieces, she decided abruptly as she finally broke through the edge of the dance floor and flopped into a seat at the bar. Something to communicate in places like this since she wasn't exactly telepathic. The bartender was with her quickly, perhaps more solicitous than normal after the strange whiteout (she couldn't call it a blackout in her mind, being as the lights had come on rather than going </i>out</i>) and she smiled brilliantly and ordered a water. He brought it to her, watching her for a moment with a faint frown before he turned away to check on someone else.

Maxxie frowned to herself as soon as he looked away, recognizing that look as the I think I know your face but can't figure it out sort of look that she saw often enough. It would get worse she thought, this summer, when the Olympics started up. But instead of dwelling on it, she simply cracked open the water and closed her eyes, trying to listen to the chatter around her and getting irritable when she realized that these things don't work nearly as well in real life as in the vids, because most of what she could hear was the thundering music that was loud enough to echo inside her chest.

JT grabbed Tom's hand and pulled him off the floor, "I'm not feeling it any more, drink?" He was actually more worrier about Maxxie, but Tom seemed unconcerned. Truth be told he was on edge these days, from the riots to the weird events that introduced him to these two. Scanning the floor as they left it brought him nothing though. No Maxxie nor "weird stuff."

As they headed towards the bar, Tom spotted Maxxie and tugged on JT to follow him. "There you are," he said. "You shouldn't do that. We could lose you in the crowd, shortie." He grinned, trying to make a joke of it, because that's what he did when he was stressed. "Find anything out?" Because Maxxie's curiosity was as strong as his sometimes.

Maxxie wrinkled her nose, making a face. "Not really. The guy behind the bar said something about officials, which I'm assuming was the guys in suits. But it's so noisy here. How do they make spying look so easy? Because I'm not even worried about talking here since I can't hear anyone else, I'm figuring no one's going to listen in on us. Oh," she grinned, "and we obviously need some sort of communication method so that when I blink away I can still talk to you guys. Think we can requisition that?"

"Hey, I bet we do get to requisition things, that's pretty cool," JT squeed. "Did you see where they went? Were they escorting anyone out? I wasn't able to see very well." He leans onto the bar and tries to wave down the bar tender, this place used actual people, instead of bots.

"There were some guys in suits going out with an escort, but they didn't look like they were in trouble," Maxxie explained. "I couldn't see much, either, since I was trying to stay out of sight myself."

She fell silent as the bartender approached, waving her water to show she was still all set, and gesturing to JT and Tom instead.

Tom asked the bartender for a water, handing over his card to be scanned. He took the water and the card back and unscrewed the top to take a sip.

JT shakes his head at the 'safe' drinks the other two have, but doesn't say anything, not really his place. He always found it was easier to relax and dance after a drink or two. "But they didn't have anyone with them? So either they missed their target or he got away."

"They didn't have anyone with them that I saw," Maxxie said. "But yeah, I don't think it was routine. They wouldn't have been this obvious if it were something planned. What they did is something people are going to talk about, just because it was weird. I could pop up towards the offices, but chances are I'd be noticed."

"We don't," Tom said. "I'm pretty sure our employer is going to great pains to make sure that the government doesn't know that we are employed by one of its own." He was conscious of not knowing who might be listening, and tried to keep anything that might give them away out of it. "I'll keep an eye on the feeds and stuff. Maybe something will pop up. Until then, we might as well enjoy ourselves." He grinned. "Who wants to dance?"
