"Okay, woke to a grocery list... goes like this, duty and death..."
Who: All characters who received a black envelope.
What: First meetings or rather, distractions.
When: May 8th, 3 pm
Where: Anhalt Building, 1005 E. Roy Street.
Status: Open; in progress.

Nobody remembers Fred Anhalt anymore.

Like its architect, the Anhalt Building has slipped away from the public mind, even of those who walk past it. If a passerby stops to look, it's simply because they see another cracked window or because a phone rang in their pocket. No one ever rings the bell. No one ever goes in.

Perhaps this is why the door is unlocked when the first entrant tries the handle. The sound of the door swinging inward echoes into the empty corridors. The lights inside are warm, welcoming, uncharacteristic for a building that Seattle thinks abandoned. A faint scent of ammonia filters in from the hall. The corners are all well-swept. There is nothing here, beyond the age and cracking of the wallpaper, to remind anyone that the Anhalt was lost to history not long after its making.

There is only one unlocked room, however, and that is on the first floor. A long table rests in the center with exactly ten chairs.

There is nothing on the table, no sign that this is a meeting, but there is also no question that it is nothing but. For one, the table takes much of the room - a cocktail party would find its members casting uneasy glances at that table that is both unassuming and dominating.

"Your letter. Not that they fit together or anything. Just curious," he replied with an easy grin. "Do you mind?"

"Actually, um... I left it at home." Gabe was a clumsy liar at best and this was not his best. The information in it had been the type, however, that he didn't share.

He didn't ask what the stranger's had said, simply tightened up a little, straightening his back so that his knees weren't bumping the table. "I dunno. I, um, thought it was a joke. Or something."

It wasn't an uncommon reaction. There was something, Del found, about people not being able to look him in the eye that made it a little difficult to come across as authentic, no matter how authentic he was being. It didn't bother him overmuch as there wasn't anything he could do about it; instead he left the inquiry alone and pulled himself out of his slumped position.

"Waiting for the punchline?"

"Yeah. Something like that." He paused, then said, "I'm Gabe." He wasn't sure if he should offer anything more than that.

What lay beyond the other man's eyes? Gabe couldn't even look him in the face.

"Del," he replied and didn't make another attempt at a handshake. Guy seemed a bit cagey for whatever reason. Maybe it was the unknown-ness of the situation that they were all in - that could make a guy tetchy.

"Del Ethier." He stood up and walked around to the back of his chair to give himself something to do and get out of the nervous energy next to him. "Man, I hope this starts picking up soon."

"I dunno, man. Picking up might mean something bad." He glanced over his shoulder. "You know anyone else in here?"

Del shook his head, looking calm because he was. "Nah. I thought maybe those two," he pointed out to Maxxie then to Tom, "went to school with my brother, but turns out not." His head tilted slightly to see the blonde guy that was talking to Tom; he did look familiar though trying to place him was impossible. "Maybe I know him. He looks familiar."

Immediately the interest in that was gone - he'd talk to him once Tom was done and try to dig it out. His attention jumped back to Gabe. "But no, I don't. You?" he asked, not expecting an answer but wanting one anyway.

"Yeah," he paused. "Kind of." Gabe hooked a thumb at Zadkiel. "That guy over there. I met him on the street."

His vision caught the young, shy-looking man and the arrival of two more. He started to do some math in his head, but was interrupted by the sudden slam of a letter on the table.

Del raised an eyebrow and circled his body around his chair to lean forward on the table to see the two letters.

"Do you have yours?" Gabe asked quietly, now feeling a little guilty about not showing his own.

He dug the haphazardly-folded letter out of his pocket, sans envelope. Del held it aloft so that Gabe could see it, but didn't make the motion to face him.

"Looks like it's time to try and clue this bitch up."

"Dude," Gabe said quite seriously. "I'm not gonna be your Miss Scarlett." Then he laughed, though there was a curious glint in his eye.

"Guess it's a shame you forgot yours, eh Gabe?" he said, hints of sarcasm in his voice as he opened the letter and spread it out on the table.

Gabe looked at each of the letters for a long moment before relenting and taking his own from his pocket, then setting it down next to the others. He didn't remove it from the envelope.
