Current music:"The Ride of Your Life" : The Gift of Gab
Entry tags:character: ganesh surendar, character: jt cole, plot: skip divided

"So far where you are that you no longer see the sun ..."
Who: JT Cole and Ganesh Surendar
When: Saturday, June 26 (backdated)
Where: An unknown v-club, though in a different sector
What: JT and Ganesh are searching out information on the internet.
Status: Closed; complete

"My avatar doesn't look anything like me," Ganesh warned JT as he held the holoband in his finger. "So don't be surprised when you jack in, if you see someone who's a lot... taller."

He'd modeled himself off what he'd thought Americans would find attractive. Tall, blond hair, blue eyes, pale skin... and absolutely nothing like himself. He frowned as he thought about that. It still didn't quite work, even with all the hours of practice he'd put in since he'd gone in with Matt.

With his comment, "See you in a minute," he slipped the band over his eyes, white light flooding towards him suddenly until he reached the end of the tunnel and found himself in the small, dark room in which he'd last jacked in. As he waited, he practiced his walk, stepping casually back and forth, barely keeping from tripping over his own muscles.

"You don't look like you'd fit in," Ganesh said bluntly. "Is that the point?" His eyes glanced over the appearance that JT had chosen. "And you don't act like you've chosen a side either so why would anyone here?"

"You don't think I look the part?" JT asked. And then added, "What do you mean I havn't chosen a side? I'm here right, you think I'm still undecided on whose side I'm on?" He looked hurt.

"I don't know what part you're playing." His eyes fell on JT, his voice honest. "I don't bloody even know what I'm doing here- all that I know is that when Matt and I came in, it wasn't..." Ganesh struggled for the words. "There was nothing in it but blood and pain and-"

He looked at JT, the words strangling in the back of his throat. "You're right. You picked this bloody side but I don't understand why." His eyes were asking JT to tell him- he wanted JT to have a reason, something more than a paycheck. They were nats, yes, but they had to be better than that.

JT stared at Ganesh, trying to figure out where this was coming from and what he was being told. Deciding to skip the crazy part he focused on the question he understood. "Because Tom and Maxxie are my friends. They are good people. Most of the people in the house seem to be good too. And prejudice, of any type, against anyone, it wrong."

He shot back, "And why did you pick this side?"

"My parents were jokers. And for a long time, I thought they'd been killed by the people like the ones we're hunting for," Ganesh answered. "It turned out just to be two bloody kids but... I know how it feels, that loss. I can't just stand by and let that happen."

He bit his lip, then said, "But yes, the people in the house are good. It's just that, for me, this is personal."

"And for me it's just the right thing to do," JT replies.

"I'm sorry about your folks, I didn't know. And that seems to be part of the problem. None of us really knows anyone else, except for maybe Tom and Maxxie, and we are constantly questioning each other's motivations and abilities. We aren't going to win, aren't going to beat them," he jerks a thumb behind him, "if we can't get along and trust each other."

"Do you still want to do this?"

"I don't know." Ganesh gave him an appraising eye. JT had nailed it, hadn't he? "Perhaps we should find out more about one another before we go off into the ether. At least- to those places."

JT took a small step back and let out a small sigh, What is it with these people and their lack of trust? could easily been seen on his face. "Sure, whatever you say man. See you around."

In the real world he reached up and pulled off the haloband, hoping to get out of the room before Ganesh could do the same.

Ganesh yanked his holoband off, jumping out of the chair and grabbing JT's shoulder before he could leave.

"You didn't understand," he said, shaking his head. "I didn't bloody mean leave. I meant that I wanted to know you first, that's all." The words sounded stupid once they were out of his mouth. Ganesh's dark skin flushed.

JT brushed off Ganesh's hands, but didn't try to leave. "From the attitudes around here, we don't have that kind of time. Or so it seems. What, you want to know my favorite color? If I've gone all the way? What do you want? You can't just decide to 'get to know someone', that just happens. It can't be planned."

"Do you really think we don't have that kind of time?" Ganesh shot back. "No one's acting like it. Everyone's still bloody planning as if we've all the time in the world to train."

He inhaled slowly, then said, "And I don't need to know your favorite color. Or your sexual history. What I want to know is how you're going to back me up- what you do." He threw his hands up. "I think that you're better in-" His left hand waved the holoband. "There than I am but I didn't know it when I asked. I don't know anything at all about you."
