Mayoral Vote Results (spread around the city - open)

Nov. 2nd, 2011

A racy update

Every screen in the City went to the normal dancing ants that foretold the coming of yet another installment of KWIT News. Candy and Frank stared at the camera for a moment as they came into view. Their fake smiles plastered to their faces.

"Well, the polls are closed, and soon we will have a new mayor," Candy announced.

"That's right, Candy. We'll find out whether we will be calling Gaius Baltar or Jack Heart 'Mr. Mayor," Frank chimed in.

"Oh, I'm sure they'd rather we call them by their own names," Candy replied. There was a brief tense moment as neither anchor said anything and just smiled at the camera.

"Whoever wins we wish them the best of luck," Frank finally said. Someone off camera could be heard mumbling, "They're gonna need it."

"Now, how about those penguins in the City Zoo?" Candy asked, to which Frank just smiled, and the screens fuzzed out and went back to whatever they'd been showing before the news broke in.

(OOC: The winner will be announced Thursday or Friday. The comments have been closed on the poll thread. Thanks for getting involved, everyone!)

Let your voice be heard

The rallies were over. The signs were posted, and other bits of unsolicited propaganda had been posted, aired, mailed, shipped, and anything else the City could think of. The mayoral race seemed to be everywhere, even as the people were still cleaning up after the storm. Finally the announcement went out.

It was time to vote! It was time for people to go to the voting centers that were set up in various places all over the City. Not realizing that there were usually regulations to this process, the City opened the voting to all its inhabitants, including those under eighteen and animals. If they were smart enough to flip a toggle, they were more than welcome to vote. The City didn't consider the possibility for a write in candidate, just the two: Gaius Baltar or Jack Heart.

(OOC: This will be open for a week. Each character may vote but gets only one vote. The comments will be screened to keep everyone in suspense. The results will be posted in a week on Nov 1, so that gives you a week to get in votes.)

There are balloons tied everywhere to draw your attention. There is a podium on the stage where the candidate will stand.

Posters seen around The City

Hard at Work (Narrative)

The City was slowly recovering from the stormy nights, but in the midst of the hustle and bustle of repairs and healing there was still more destruction to be had.

Not that it was that much, but as Rufio discarded the last of his spraypaint cans he couldn't help but be satisfied with his work.

He took out a pocket knife, carving his name into the lower corner of the most recently defaced poster, making sure that this ugly old blonde man knew exactly who had flown throughout the City and wrecked or painted over every poster he could find. )

Race of Hearts (Open)

Jack might not have known what he was getting himself into when it came to elections. Nearly as soon as he'd signed his name up for the mayoral race, a campaign manager had descended upon him. He hadn't really known to look to hire one and yet one had found him anyway. He didn't know if it was the City's doing or honestly, he didn't quite know these things worked.

After all, there had never been an election or a vote of any kind in Wonderland. Rulers were born, not chosen. Or, in his case, they were overthrown and replaced by the next in line.

He'd spent the past few weeks reading up on politics and elections and everything else he could find on democracy. He certainly had a better idea now than he had when he'd first put his name in the ring for this. All the same, reading about something was nowhere near as educational as actually experiencing it.

Jack stood to the side of the stage, waiting for the signal from his campaign manager to approach the podium and start his speech. He'd told Fred about entering the mayoral race on their last date and he'd invited her to attend the rally. He scanned the crowd for some sign of her, hoping that she would be there. His campaign staff had already been instructed to escort her to the front if she did show up. But of course he didn't expect her to just throw him her support because they'd been on two dates. All the same, it would be nice to have her here.

Jack didn't pace. Giving speeches wasn't anything new to him, even if the reason for the speech tonight was. He'd certainly addressed his subjects often enough and he didn't see why this shoudl be all that different.

A Call To Legislature [Open]

She left him.

Doesn't she always?

Well, yes, she did. That was in her nature. Innocuous, taunting, deceitful. Distrusting in all manners of personal consequence. It had something to do with her mission to help him find his true path. But ever since arriving in this new and unfamiliar place, Gaius was beginning to doubt her words. She didn't sound quite as confident as she had when they were aboard the Galactica. It wasn't a note of trepidation in her voice. Nor was it a lingering sense in her quiescence when he tried to inquire more information from her. (She'd always been reluctant to say too much, after all. Like there was some code among imaginary mind dwellers.) He had surpassed his fears of going crazy, however. This was considerably relieving to his consciousness, which had been reeling in the idea that his natural body was in a state of shock somewhere. Perhaps a poor coma victim in the hands of Doc Cottle. (Oh, Gods, I can't imagine anything worse.) Except for maybe being under the care of the Admiral, who would most certainly flush his lifeless body outside of an airlock. And then there was the question of his possible Cylon life. Was he a Cylon? He still had yet to come to a decision in this respect. She had always just given him that omniscient smirk and sauntered off whenever he questioned his humanity (or lack thereof.) And the others around him? Well, the all hoped that he was. And, in a sense, so did he. It would justify his actions.

I destroyed humanity. I wiped out the Twelve Colonies. It's okay because I'm not one of them.
The City needed a man of the future. )
