Jesse looked up, taking the cigarette from where it was hanging out of his mouth and held it off to the side so that the smoke wouldn't float up into the guy's face.
"God ain't here, son." He shook his head. "Ain't never been. You got any angels hangin about, you got a god to work for, then yer workin for me."
He shrugged one shoulder. "That or yer workin for The City. Which ain't somethin I'd be encouragin. The City's more a devil than a god."
Jesse looked at Mel, then the others. "There's a meanin to life, even if yer life hasn't been particularly happy. Just cause you seen some shit doesn't mean that there ain't no meanin. Don't want to call you an idiot, but only an idiot would think it were all for nothin."
He stood up straight then, momentarily a lot closer to Dean than he had been when Dean walked up.
"There was a God." He said, moving away "But he's dead now, and that's a damned fact."
