Mel was flat on her back before she could blink, glaring at this chick with the attitude problem that was--impressively--worse than her own.
She glared, but she did not fight back. Fray wasn't stupid--she knew how Laws worked. She knew how THE law worked. She was always on the receiving end of something like this. She'd been arrested in Versi more times than she could count, and followed and watched by cops even more.
"Just..." Fray said, tensing all her muscles, just in case. "... like... home."
If she hit the cop, she could kill her. She knew it. Angry plus Slayer equalled lethal. So she didn't move.
Behind the woman, and in Mel's line of vision, another cop stood, angry, yelling about what in the hell did she think she was doing, and take her damn hands off the girl right now. Mel's blue eyes looked at the badge around the woman's neck, and flicked back to her face.
"Wherever you were, that ain't here anymore," she said carefully. "Look."
Fray set her jaw, and the man who had been yelling pulled the woman off of her and then let her go. The little Slayer sat up slowly, eyes trained on the cop. She was ready to run, ready to hit if she had to.
