"Where I come from, everything is corporate sponsors. Everything. The schools are run by McDonalds and Mattel, Nike is one of the leading corporations in the world. The United States has become the United Federation, everybody is united, but nobody is really happy. The rich are super rich, the poor don't have anything. The police and the NRA are private sector mercenaries, leaving the Government to do the work of holding up laws and we have to have funding to follow up on cases. Which means we get to ask victims and victims' families to pay for an investigation before we can do it. Everybody takes the last name of the place they work for. Kids take the last names of their schools. I was a Government Agent." She shrugged, she thought that Charlie was smart enough to figure that out for himself.
"The world I come from is nothing like this." Her sigh was wistful, but not because she missed it. Because she was so much happier here. She knew it wouldn't make sense to a lot of people. Everybody seemed bent on finding a way out. She wanted to stay right here.
