War on a whole new front [Mal, Wash & Kaylee]
It didn't take Mal long to figure out how to stop the zombies, now the open warehouse doors to where Serenity lay dormant boasted a grim barricade of pale bodies, each boasting some kind of shot to the head. They came in waves. A handful would stumble close soon to be followed by more. As ravenous as Reavers, but lacking the same kind of killer speed and agility.
Serenity's cargo bay door was lowered and metal crates were lined around where the door touched upon the floor. If Mal wasn't quick enough, this was the last line of defense before one of the walking dead could reach the ship. When their numbers had grown too large the Captain had called for all hands on deck and all hands holding firearms. While he did his best to remain calm, there was a sense of discomfort about him; being in the heat of a battle without Zoe having his back just didn't feel right.
Holding a gun was enough to make Hoban Washburne uncomfortable, holding a gun shooting zombies while his wife was who knows were out in the midst of those zombies -- well, he wasn't going to sleep easy anytime soon. But oddly enough, holding out in the hopes of finding Zoe, it kept his hand steady and his aim as sure as it could be for the pilot. Nearly twenty new "visitors" were currently mobbing the entryway, groaning and fighting past one another to press through. Hands steadied on a rifle swiped from Jayne's bunk, on Mal's call Wash began shooting.
For every zombie shot successfully by his ship's pilot, Mal took out two or three more. Sometimes Wash's shot to the chest was "corrected" by a slug embedded into the undead's brain by Mal's pistol. When the twenty-some odd bodies lay motionless like the others, Mal turned back to stare up through the opened hull of the ship and shouted. "Gettin' to a mighty important fork in the road, Kaylee. Either the mule gets goin' or you're gettin' a rifle to keep 'em off the ship!"
