Things were very strange. And for a being that had been alive as long as she had, that was saying quite a lot. But things were very, very strange. Never before had she seen people behave the way they had been behaving.
Why, she had tried to help someone who appeared ill across the street, and he had attempted to bite her!
Thus far, Jeannie had been doing something that she almost never did: she was avoiding people. It was a very bizarre feeling for someone that spent a good deal of her time attempting to help the mortals around her. But the few times she had attempted conversation today she had been attacked, either by someone trying to bite her or someone swinging something heavy at her head. She was not terribly fond of either option. It was nothing short of weird.
So when she saw the blonde girl emerge from a nearby building, she did something that was very rare. She hesitated. Were it any other blonde girl, even one she knew, Jeannie might avoid her today along with all the others. But this was not just any blonde girl.
This was the blonde girl who had spoken to her when she was dead. For that reason alone, Jeannie risked being bitten by approaching her to say, “Excuse me?”
