He started talking to her, and she just wanted him to stop. She wanted to get to Jake before she would be late back to work. Clearly the guy had no concept of urgency, the way he was talking.
She shook his hand briefly and nodded. "Jennifer Governme... Jesse Custer?" It sunk in quickly and stopped her. She had no more thoughts of needing to rush, because here in front of her was the man she was supposed to be looking for.
"Of all the fucking luck."
She'd searched all over the damned place for this guy, and found nothing. He'd been in her building the whole time. It made her feel like she wasn't able to do her job.
Looking at him, though, she couldn't figure out why anybody possibly thought that he could be dangerous. Her finely tuned senses didn't ring out at the sight of him. Her skin didn't crawl with his touch. She didn't have any gut instinct that he might hurt her or anybody else. Actually, quite the opposite. He made her feel a little bit warm. Safe somehow.
"You're Jesse Custer." She tried. This felt all wrong.
