The cat was really cute. She wanted to scoop it up and cuddle it, but decided that might scare it. So instead, she cracked the sandwich open and put the side with the most tuna down on the ground for the kitty to consume.
She felt a little silly, getting this excited over a cat. But she felt so lonely, and it was nice to have something breathing pay attention to her for more than just handing her paperwork.
Or demanding she find somebody who apparently didn't exist.
Jennifer carefully held her hand out so it could be smelled when the cat felt ready to do so.
"You've got an awfully strange collar on." She said softly. "I guess you belong to somebody already."
She really did feel sad at that. And confused. Why had she thought that she'd just be able to take some random wild cat home? Why had she hoped for it? Maybe she needed companionship more than she wanted to admit.
