The young woman offered the smallest trace of a scowl, fingers raking their way back through her hair as she muttered, "I'm beginning to wonder more and more if that will is as good as it would originally have us believe."
Little Nancy Callahan. She'd been filled with such hopes and dreams and thought of a bright future. Rainbows, puppy dogs, butterflies, the whole nine yards! She'd wanted to study in law school and become something great...but instead she'd only been thrown down in the depths of filth and despair, right along with the rest of this whole damned world. But she'd managed to press on. She'd found a way to smile, even as that sweet body of hers was taken and used and abused for the money that she could bring in. Yes, even then, she'd been happy. When times got bad, she'd pen a note to her beloved angel - her Hartigan - and hold on to the mere hope that they'd yet one day be reunited. That they'd meet again, fall in love, and move away from the degradation of Basin City. Maybe have a house with the stereotypical picket fence and a few kids. Something normal...and good.
But her angel had been destroyed. Given his life over for hers.
...and ever since then, somehow the whole world seemed just a little bit darker.
When she'd first arrived in the City, she'd actually wondered if she might be in heaven. Perhaps she'd died in her sleep and been taken to meet with her angel yet again. She'd searched for him endlessly on the first few days there...but he was no where to be found. She'd been forced to face the facts that he was gone. That, for the first time in her life, she was alone.
She gasped when suddenly a large green creature appeared out from behind one of the buildings and stepped right out in front of them. She cringed, afraid they would hit him...but somehow the creature managed to leap his way clear over their car, heading in the direction of Godzilla with a fierce roar of "HULK SMASH!"
Blinking those dark eyes of hers, she shifted around in her seat again to watch as he lumbered away and she muttered under her breath, "What the hell are any of us doing here?"
