That was a very strange concept for Jake to understand. His species was always very quick to help each other out, especially in times of great need and crisis. And from what he'd learned from Frank and his friends, it seemed that most humans felt the same way. He supposed there were always bad eggs. Even his community wasn't without them. But to be afraid to help people because one might get dirty? That was beyond Jake's comprehension.
"I thought, well, just that ... You being larger than me and more familiar with this neighborhood ... You'd be a good asset in assisting people."
Maybe he should have sought out someone else instead. But she had been the first person he ran into.
The ground shook and his tail swung back and forth to steady himself.
