Slowly, Inara considered being frightened, or possibly screaming, but she wasn't a screaming sort of girl and she'd come with the man willingly, after all. He was saving her life. And the only reaction she could muster was an odd sort of detachment, as if she was watching herself from the other side of the mirror.
If the City was trying to see how far it could push her to reach her breaking point, this may have been it.
The stranger in the robotic suit set her down on the top of a building and she blinked at him, swaying as her feet hit solid ground. She was used to flying, but not like this, and not when a giant amphibian monster was bearing down on them. Questions darted through her mind, but she couldn't grasp them fast enough.
"Fine," she gasped in answer to his question. "Thank you. What is that thing?" Who are you, she wanted to say, but thought it rude.
