It stung, the brash shoving aside of his faith. He had grown into a man with nothing but God on his side and even now, standing before a creature that looked like a man whom drank blood....a literal vampire, he was being shoved aside.
His shoulders slumped. His faith held strong even as he waivered and struggled. The irritation filled him and the blackness that coated the skin of his back tingled with delight. "I'm dying. Can't you feel it?" Eddie inquired, voice soft. "Condemned. Cast out to the darkness like you. Believe what you want. He won't give up on you. He can't. In spite of what you think you know or whatever has changed your life for better or worse. I didn't come here to have a battle of faith with you, John."
Eddie's eyes narrowed. "I didn't come here to change you or anyone else, or guide you back to the path. Fuck whatever you believe. I don't care. I'm glad you've found something, at least, something tangible. Good luck with that."
The darkness crept over his skin, coating first the flesh of his shoulders and arms, working its way across his chest and stomach. He had let someone else down. Just like the rest before. Not that it mattered.
