Selina wouldn't have divulged what lay within the glass case that belonged to her friend even if he had asked her...begged to know... That took the fun out of the surprise. It was a discovery she would leave for him to uncover on his own terms. It seemed invasive of The City to just out certain things of their lives out there...Selina doubted anyone that noticed what was inside her own would know why the City had chosen it, not unless she told them, but it taunted her just the same.
"Thank you," Selina breathed, relieved that Ben agreed to take the dress back with him. That was no way to start building a friendship, dishonesty, but she knew that had it been anyone else she would have taken care of the task herself and not have relied on her friend. But neither Ben nor Eric were just anyone. She guessed that taking the dress herself would have been a death sentence.
She would give it a while, after the dress was returned, before she reached out. Or maybe she would have Ben there with her. It would depend on the circumstances.
It was then Selina felt as if her appetite had come back, and it was then she indulged in the simple lunch Ben had provided. It didn't take long for her to consume the meal, and finish her drink. She had been hungrier than she noticed and was glad someone had noticed or it probably would have gone forgotten.
