Duly attired in fine garments and adorned with kohl and jewelry, Siggy felt better than she had in some time. The weather was beautiful. She had cattle of her own, even if it was only a stubborn pregnant goat. Thanks to the rooftop garden she had food better than what was sold at the markets. She had status of a sort.
She had intended to purchase flour for baking, but the day was pleasant and she wandered from her purpose. Her wandering brought her to the entrance of what she now knew to be the City park, and she hesitated. She had not been here since her arrival. Unbidden the memory of icy waters sprung to her mind and she gasped, pulling the woolen mantle that she wore tight around herself though there was no chill in the air.
There was no reason to fear the park, she chided herself, setting her jaw. Still, she stood on the sidewalk and merely looked in, lost in her own thoughts.
