"Peter has been helping me." He nodded. "Keeping everybody safe."
The story that he had to tell was not a quick one. But Aidan remembered all the names. He even told her about Evey, how he'd starved himself, fought the dogs, killed the woman he loved, only for Peter to save her. Every detail of his time in die Festung came out with the revelation. He told the ghost made flesh of his time here, what had happened to cause the death of her doppleganger, every grisly detail. He wished that she could see inside, as Peter could, so she could see it all for herself.
All the while, Aidan kept his hands visible. His eyes searching hers, then casting down again. Pleading for mercy, looking away in shame. Searching for forgiveness, absolution. But he was realizing what the implications were here. If this woman walked away with the knowledge in her head, what harm would it to do Peter? To Evey? He had harmed many already. He'd harmed them deeply, too, even if they didn't know the extent. If he wiped her mind, plucked those memories out, how soon before Peter knew?
"My life for a long time was to be the monster in the eyes of others of my kind."
