Liv didn't answer. Maybe it was selective hearing or maybe it was because she took her first real sip of carbonated sugar water in almost a year and it was ... Heaven. Not just carbonation. She could taste sugar, cola-flavor, vanilla. The sweetness was so strong to her just renewed senses that it was nearly too much, but she closed her eyes and savored it anyway.
"Oh my god," she exhaled. She tried a couple of french fries at once. She hadn't been able to pick up salt or potatoes or the satisfying oily crispy crunch. She'd forgotten the ketchup. The next bite, she didn't. The sweet, tomato sauce with the fries. Liv groaned slightly, delighted by the reintroduction to food.
"This is amazing," she said to Bruce. "Look, I've met people. I sort of have friends. Acquaintances. But these pills don't-- they're not a cure. This, this is as good as it's going to get, right? And... this is really great. Thank you. Better than I could have hoped for or deserved."
Liv eagerly took up the burger and tried the first bite.
