Having something of a blend between the personality of a cat and a raven, Crow was immediately fascinated by the shiny thing. He flew over to it, batting it with his catlike front paws and picking at it with his black beak.
"I hope he doesn't break that," Alex said. "It looks expensive." He debated what he could say before realizing that she had just given him an answer. "Where I'm from? Yep! Yeah." How had he never just thought to say Hey, I'm from an alternate reality while living in a place with people displaced from their own reality? "Though he's a species that's threatened due to habitat encroachment. Crow was the only survivor of a nest that was destroyed and I hand-raised him. Since he's used to humans he can't be returned to the wild."
Beyond them, crow had rolled onto his back and was rabbit-kicking at the watch, growling happily. "He's a jerk, but we're... you know. Friends, I guess. He's less a pet and more a partner."
