How could she explain what having a goat meant to her here, and how far she'd go to protect it? In Kattegat, cattle meant more than food, it meant wealth. For all of the clothing and shelter she'd found since arriving, she did not feel that it was truly hers. It had all been lent to Siggy. But this animal, even if it was a lowly goat, was wealth. It was stature, if only in her own mind. She would not let that be taken from her.
