The earnest grin dipped as John nodded, returning his attention to the notes he was playing. He could tell Eric was a stronger musician, probably spent much more time than John had playing. But he didn't feel left behind, either.
He didn't need to know what Eric was. The person was strong, mild mannered, and seemed content enough in living, and that simplicity suited John fine. He picked up on his welcome, and in kind his own attitude relaxed more completely, letting him focus on the music.
"Whatever the final judgement, we can be not evil for a moment," he joked quietly.
