The quick separation was like ice water, and his expression even more so. Evey sucked in a breath and raked her hand over her face.
"I'm sorry," she said, immediately recognizing that what she had done was upsetting to him. She should have remembered. In the back of her mind, behind all the blatant possessiveness, she did remember. "I'm sorry."
Evey didn't blush, but her embarrassment was clear by the awkward stiffness in her body. She looked anywhere but at him.
