Evey moved differently than he'd ever known her to. She had the silence of a predator, the caution of prey. There had been something like it back when he'd first met her, but this was extreme. Aidan could only imagine that it came from having to avoid being eaten. By dinosaurs. There was going to be a point when emotions weren't high and heavy, and he was going to find amusement in that thought.
Her words filtered through his mind as she spoke them, and he took a deep, unneeded breath, inhaling the scent of her and the room beyond the door.
It was symbolic, Aidan thought. He had an idea of where they were going once they were in the building, though he wasn't sure if they were going to go talk to Preston right now or if she was just leading him to her own apartment. It was answered quickly, though. And the symbolism of her invite wasn't lost on him. She wanted him in her space. This was an act of acceptance.
He didn't stop, and he didn't argue. He walked into the apartment and still didn't let go of her hand.
It felt weird to see, the last time he'd seen her inside of her own bubble had been in die Festung when he'd spent the night. That apartment was much different from this one.
