He desperately pet her hair, squeezed her shoulders, let his hand slide down to her back to reassure her, frantic movements of a man who wasn't any more sure of what needed to be done, what should be done, than the woman who was confused and upset. The words she spoke cut him to the quick. Aidan knew what he wanted her to say and do. He wanted her to renounce Preston and give all of her self over to the half of Evey that was his own. He wanted her to forget the Evey that had been on that dinosaur island and had been without him for so long.
He also knew it wasn't the right thing.
"You have to do what feels right to you." He said softly, trying to not struggle to get the words out. "I can't tell you what that is, and neither can Preston. You're the one that has to decide. Whatever the outcome is, I'll be here for you. I'll always be your friend."
Aidan felt like he already knew what it would be. He felt like he knew which Evey was at the forefront and who would be the choice that particular Evey would make. That Evey had seen him at his worst, had already told him that she was in love with somebody else.
