Clarice's eyes skimmed over the equipment again and wondered how much of it she did not recognize because it was unfamiliar and how much because it had not been invented in 1989.
She grimaced slightly. That hadn't been an unknown phenomenon to her, though it had been men not involved in law enforcement who seemed to pry for that reaction. You work in the bughouse? She'd always extricated herself quickly from those situations, unwilling to cheapen her field of study and to involve herself with someone who viewed it as nothing more than a lurid story to be told over bad drinks.
