"You can tell that? It's not just me?" He paused again, his pen held just above the page. "I thought I was imagining it. The people we get coming through the zoo, most of them seem... flat. Like movie extras, you know? Like there's something missing." He tapped the pen against the notebook thoughtfully. "That's pretty much the weirdest way I could have thought of to have that observation confirmed, but it's nice to know it wasn't all in my head."
He grinned at her. "Good to know. At the moment I'd be more concerned about zombie dinosaurs. The Edmontosaurs might only be able to gum at you instead of biting, but if their behavior changed to anything more aggressive, it could be pretty dangerous for everyone involved. Or if one of the predators was infected."
