Alex scribbled furiously. "Do you think that maybe your system could have adapted and is now dedicated primarily to incorporating neural tissue instead of solely breaking food down into glucose and proteins? Which... isn't my question. It's me thinking out loud." He tapped his pen against the notebook as he talked, staring up in the air. "Traditional digestive methods would break down neural tissue into fats and proteins, but the mental upkeep and incorporation of memories suggests to me that there's something there that's regenerating your neurological tissue as it's trying to degenerate. At least, the frontal lobe."
Alex paused and held up his hands, looking down at her. "Which, don't worry, I'm not going to suggest anyone vivisect you. Again, I'm just throwing out theories. And if you're a medical student, you'd probably have more to say about it than a simple herpetologist. But there's similar varieties of altered digestion in several other cryptid species, so that could be a good place to start on your understanding."
Embarrassed, Alex looked back at his notes. "So... does the neural tissue have to be raw, or have you tried cooking it?"
