"Ma'am, that wasn't a threat." It was a promise. He would give her no less than the truth. While Bruce didn't actively seek trouble and fighting, it seemed to be just his luck that it found him at the most inconvenient times. Like now. Already his skin was crawling with sensation bye he fought it, wrestled inwardly to keep any trace of the beast down. Now was not the time to show any signs of the monster. "I'm glad to hear that you're not afraid, but you should be. Even I'm afraid of it." It wasn't wise to be unafraid, to give in to pride when in he face of an unstoppable force. She reminded him a bit of Tony, reckless and haughty when faced with imminent danger.
Again her words stabbed hard into him. The reflection of him couldn't possibly be what the monster showed. Could it? His shoulders slumped sadly and his hands lowered slowly.
"I'll do my best to alert the authorities next time." It was a promise he would not keep due to the circumstances of the situation, but he felt if that was what it took then he would offer it to her. She needed to hear it and he was able to give her that at least.
