Charlie nodded slightly; he supposed the junkie might be able to take care of himself, maybe. Then again, if the guy could take care of himself, would he be sitting here on the bench looking like he did? This was a very good question, and the ex-detective didn't think he was the best to answer it. He also didn't think the man was all that great a choice for answering either.
He nodded again, having decided to give it time. Perhaps he might find the real answer with a few more questions. Or with just the one.
"Perhaps you shouldn't be with nice people. Actual or otherwise." There had been many times in prison and then out after prison that being around nice people wasn't a good thing for Charlie. Though, being around nice people could be helpful. He leaned back again.
"You may never be ready. Waiting for yourself might mean you're waiting for Gadot." He shrugged. "Or God. Something like that. Sometimes you have to just go without being ready. Sometimes." Getting help didn't always come when someone was ready; it came when it came.
