Aidan realized that it sounded like he was here to get himself killed just as the cop told him that he'd have to take action if it was alluded to at all that was the reason. He had to think about it for a moment, to make sure that wasn't what he was here for. But no. No, he was still afraid of the nothing that would come after his actual death. He didn't want to die.
"No worries." Aidan shook his head. "I'm only here because I feel like I don't deserve to be among actual nice people. Not because I'm hoping I'll get hurt. Safety isn't a concern because I ... well. If it comes down to it, I can handle myself."
He looked at the bag of seeds being put in front of him, and the second one that joined it. He must look really really bad if this guy thought that he needed to be gifting food. Aidan didn't know how to tell him politely that he didn't need these, so he picked up the open one and spilled a few of the seeds into his palm. It seemed to be one of those transactions where nothing was supposed to be said. It had been offered so nonchalantly, Aidan felt that if he uttered a thank you, it would make the moment weird for both of them. He hoped that his eating of some of the offered food would show he was grateful.
"Do I want help." He had to think about that, too. And another bout of honesty burst from his lips. "I do. I need it, and I know I do. I just don't .. " He looked at the seeds in his hand. "I don't know if I'm ready for it."
