The audience was silent - either from shock or horror. Even Hannibal's proper bow did not rouse them from their stupor. That was, perhaps, an artist's biggest compliment. Silence. Silence, because there were no other words.
But the glow from the boy was damned peculiar. Erik saw from the keen attention Dr. Lecter gave Hannibal that the older gentleman had also noticed it. As Hannibal made his exit, Erik stepped aside to allow Hannibal to pass from the audience's view without restriction. But Erik also noticed that Hannibal was not looking at either of them directly. His eyes seemed to stare past them both.
It could be the stage lights momentarily blinding Hannibal. And yet, something about this moment felt like alarm. Nothing was seemingly wrong, but this sensation had kept Erik from death more times than he could count. The warning rung strong and loud inside him, and he was alarmed.
