Killian dozed lightly. He had always found true comfort in the rocking of the ship and he was glad for that. It made some men sick; sea sickness was not something a pirate could succumb to and expect to have a sterling reputation to follow. For him it was like a soft lullaby and it allowed his rest to come much easier than it did on land. Killian preferred the rocking of the ship and on the occasions (less now than before in Storybrooke) he did spend on land he was apt to miss the soothing sensation.
Of course he had all but forgotten the gentle idle of the boat as exhausted as he was from all of the physical strain designed to keep Effie satisfied. Not that Killian minded, she was quite the beauty for as young as she was. He kept pace well with her and even challenged her once in a while. But she was good at utterly wearing him out and he could sleep well for hours after a few rounds with her.
At her party Effie had called him her boyfriend. Time spent in an area like Storybrooke allowed the captain to be familiar with such a term though despite the familiarity with the word he knew better the gravity such a title came with. It wasn't her, not in the slightest. Lillian's heart hadn't been meant for another in quite a long time. Milah was inscribed on the skin of his good arm. And Emma always had left a good taste in his mouth. He was just wasn't sure if he could be everything Effie needed. He was far out of practice at being committed to anything with such intensity.
His eyes opened finally and he looked up at the darkened ceiling. The chill in the air meant that Effie had long since vacated the warmth of the satin. That was alright with him. He didn't expect her to stay nor would he place such restrictions. But he was up and dressed to check on her anyway.
Heading up to the deck, Killian found the sight of Effie standing at the helm and he paused to look up at her from the lower level platform. "I see you've taken to making yourself Captain now," he teased. "Quite a sight you are in the garb of a pirate."
Then he ascended the few steps and closed the distance between them. "You alright, love?"
