And, she knew, she didn't have to say thank you for the healing, either. For him, it was as simple as righting a crooked picture frame on a wall. Evey shouldn't be in pain. Peter made certain that she wasn't. Moreover, he took pleasure in knowing that she was back to rights again. And yet, Evey still said the words, even knowing that it had not been a difficult thing for him to do or something that he felt put out to have accomplished for her.
She was glad not to be hurting. And she meant that in more ways than one.
Evey wasn't one for displays of affection. Perhaps that's why she was so well suited to John Preston. But the fond look she gave him - and more, the feeling she shared through their mental link - told Peter enough of what was on her mind. She was grateful, but more than that, she loved Peter. She loved him completely, and she'd been wrong to ever have pushed him away. Now she knew better. Now she would be better. With her hand on the door knob, she gave him a brief smile, then stepped into the apartment she shared with John Preston.
