As he held her close to him Selina finally began to feel free. Unburdened. Like she didn't need to conceal herself behind a mask anymore. She felt safe there, wanted, needed....loved. Truly loved. It was a feeling no gem, piece of jewelry or expensive vessel could ever bring her. If he had asked her to give up everything she stood for, to be as free as he was, she would have in that moment. Anything to keep the moment going forever.
But as it was, the moment shattered with that small cough and she pulled free. She felt like she was floating on a cloud as she settled back in to her seat and her hand found his without so much as a command.
Her fingers laced with his and she squeezed the digits gently. Until he met her with questions again. Her brain locked itself up for a moment. The momentum left fleeing with the last bit of that question posed.
"What're you talking about, Bruce?" The question she had posed before that he had never truly answered. "You think I would be sitting here right now if I wasn't happy with you?" That she would stay every night when he asked and would come back on the evenings she did leave to be able to curl up with him and sleep? How could he ask her such a thing. How could he even assume he wasn't making her happy?
