James remained silent while he fought not to object to everything the angel was telling him. It didn't help that he had begun to remember decisions he made during missions, had begun to remember lives he ended while on assignment. At least he could agree with part of Castiel's assessment: What was done to him was wrong. He didn't know what he held dear - Ariel, yes... and, he thought, probably Steve - but the rest... The rest was still buried under years of reprogramming. And it was slow in surfacing evenly.
James finally rubbed his eyes. "I will try," he said at last, "To do what you've said." He couldn't promise anything other than to try. He hoped it was enough.
