Castiel nodded slightly in response to the thanks to acknowledge it, though he needed no gratitude when it came to aiding heroes who'd been wronged. He could see the difference in the other, and read the healing effect in his mind, and that was enough for him.
"You were wronged," he said, arm falling to his side. "It was never your fault, they are simply trials. Remember what you hold dear, what you fight for. It's the choices you make that reflect on your soul, not the damage inflicted upon it."
It wasn't the most comforting thing to say, but some pain couldn't be soothed. Castiel only hoped that he was able to lessen it, to start the man on the path to truly healing those scars. Or at least to remind him why it was important to remember the hurt, without letting it overwhelm him.
