The fairy winced when the bird made the statement. "Bran, no." He shook his head, despite the fact that the crow wouldn't be able to see it. Macklyn knew he would hear. That's what mattered.
"Eric, the kitten really doesn't have to stay. I should have known better. I should have asked first, it was stupid of me to think this would be okay." He looked at the white fluff in his hands and watched his mate walk from the kitchen.
He wanted to follow, but not with the source of anguish in his hands. He looked around and then set the feline down on the table. "Stay." But it started to follow as soon as he moved. He spotted the box that their dishes had come in and flipped it open and placed the creature inside, then moved toward where Eric was.
"I'll get it out of the house." Macklyn promised. "Right now."
He was so upset with himself that he couldn't have hidden the feelings even if he'd wanted to.
