"I'll show you 'accumulated day off', Sir!" she said, laughing.
Then a child screamed and dimmed the laughter around their table. She frowned over her shoulder at the father who decidedly did see her, then looked back at Matt. "You all right?" she asked softly. "If you want we can pack up and go. To your place. Where you can give me another tour. I seem to have forgotten the layout, you see..."
The teasing was back again, and in full force. She hoped that the father got the point. She wondered if she'd ever screamed like that. When she'd gone back to meet her own father - oh, very long ago, now - she didn't remember her infant self crying. But even if she did, Rose thought, it made sense. There had been reapers all over the place. That would make anyone cry. Even the Doctor.
And now, for an altogether different reason, the laughter faded from her again.
She didn't say anything, knowing that if she only stayed quiet, just for the minute it took her to forget him again, it would be better for the both of the people at this table. She thought she'd been doing better. She had been doing better. When could she get back to a normal life, with a normal bloke?
Well... Mostly normal...
Well, all right, he was pretty spectacular, actually.... probably not 'normal' at all, though...
