Melody had taken to trying to explore every corner of the city, like she had with New Troy, but it was literally impossible to do. Nothing stayed in the same place. Some days she felt like she was making progress, just to discover that everything she'd already seen was in the new corner she was trying to discover.
Today she was trying just roaming around randomly, walking in a straight line to see where the City threw her. She had no idea how many actual miles she'd journeyed, but it felt like she hadn't moved an inch. She kept seeing the same stores. Twice now she'd wandered past a giant prison.
There was a pet store next to a hardware store currently, and she'd walked by it three times. This time she stopped to look. Pets were a no-go in her life. They died too easily in her care. The smallest amount of power on her end, and they were gone. Their lives were so frail, so easy to break. Melody was already addicted to death, she felt like a pet would just spur it on. But there was no harm in looking, right?
She thought that she heard her name, though it was a low, gruff voice. Eric didn't sound like that, John didn't either, Pam certainly didn't. Her head came up and she glanced around a bit, seeking the speaker, still somewhat distracted by the adorable bunnies.
