Despite what he might have thought, Evey could scarcely register that it was actually Aidan in front of her, much less piece together what had happened in that dark pit. When he touched her face, she let him. But she didn't lean into his touch the way she would have in die Festung. Accepting comfort was an almost foreign thing to her, now. She'd been so careful on that island to keep herself together in front of everyone else - even Peter, for as much as she could. She'd been so very, very careful not to let others see. And those walls did not easily come down. So she stood there and let him wipe her tears, but she couldn't reach into the space between them and pull them closer together. The thought didn't even occur to her.
"I never would have left you," she answered back. And it was strange to say something so raw from her heart - out loud, to someone else, so that they could hear it. "I - we... Many of those of us who survived that world only did so because the Doctor's TARDIS somehow transported us to another place. The world wasn't.... wasn't torn like the one we were in, but it was... There were dinosaurs. The TARDIS was damaged; we had to..." Evey trailed off. It didn't matter what they had to do. "For a little over a year, we survived, until the City arrived. It incorporated our island into it - you can still visit it. I walked from it. There's -- there's a -- bridge."
She was only talking now, talking too much, and her eyes were red and still wet. Swallowing dryly, she finally pressed her lips together and tried to breathe. When she had enough breath, she said, very quietly, "I never would have left you. I'm so sorry."
