"Laurel," Matt nodded, easing into the informality. "That's pretty. Not a name I've heard before." Of course Matt wasn't out seeking such things either. When he wasn't working a case he donned his devil suit and protected the night. He hUnited and sought only those that threatened the balance of order. In The City there had really been no need to adorn the costume and patrol, and being able to capture a bit more domestication in his life was welcomed. Eating, sleeping and involving himself into more normal human activities instead of the lawyer by day, vigilante hero by night bit that he'd lived by for so long.
There was a lot about Laurel that Matt liked. Even before she had walked into the room he had a feeling that something familiar would come, and though they were strangers to each other, neither was a stranger to the cause. An ADA. That was like gold.
"I see you've done your homework, Laurel. I'm impressed. Really. And I think you'll be surprised by this town. Don't underestimate the power of thought. All you have to do is ask, and sometimes you shall receive," Matt explained, hinting mostly at her credentials. If he offered her that office next to his, he guaranteed it would look exactly the way her own did in Starling City. Down to the last detail.
Then Matt shifted. He knew she wasn't lying to him about anything. Her heart rate never once sped up until the last part of her speech. The part about dedication to finding justice. He liked that most of all, the way her heart raced with those words.
"Instead of working for me, Laurel, how about we work side by side? I've never been any good at giving orders," Matt explained. He opened a drawer on his desk, glanced down into it as if he could see and removed a set of keys. Lifting his head, Matt smiled and held the keys up, offering them to her. "You'll find the key to the front door, one to your office and one to the room with the files. Make sure you lock up if you work late. You'll make your own hours on a case by case bases."
After she took the set of keys, Matt closed the drawer. "The only other people here are Paulina, the receptionist out front, and Rose."
